Pierre-Yves Monette, an international mediation expert, was Federal mediator (ombudsman) of Belgium until 2005 and a member of the UN mediation stand-by team delegated to the special representative of the SG during the Malian peace process in Algiers (2014-2015).
Pierre-Yves shares his view on the process, its challenges and results, and his personal experience of the work as a mediator in such a challenging environment. How do you prepare for such a mission? How many and what type of people are in the mediators’ team? What were your emotional highlights?
